Reiki Q&A

What is Reiki?

The word Reiki, translated from Japanese, means ‘universal life energy’. This energy is channelled by a qualified practitioner which means that the Reiki energy passes through them to the recipient and does not drain the practitioner's own energy systems.

The Milton Keynes Reiki Support Group holds at

Margaret Powell House
417 Midsummer Boulevard
Milton Keynes

On the first Friday of every month from 7:30pm

We are a non-profit charity but would appreciate a minimum donation of £5.00 per healing treatment.  We rely on these donations to help with running costs and being able to continue our voluntary monthly healing sessions.  Donations are made at the Reception table prior to treatment.

All of the Group's Practitioners are volunteers who donate their time and services for free.

What to Expect During a Treatment
The form of Reiki we practice at our sessions is Hands on Healing; it is non-intrusive and very gentle. There will always be a Reiki Master in charge of your individual treatment session. Receiving Reiki is very pleasant (it is usually noticed as a peaceful and warm feeling) and some people fall asleep during treatments.
You will be asked to lie on a treatment couch (face up or down at your choice), fully clothed and asked some simple questions to help the practitioner give you the best experience. The soft music, low lighting and (optional) warm blanket are there to help you be comfortable and relaxed.  There can be (up to) four practitioners per couch.  Treatment in the Healing Room at our group lasts approximately 15/20 minutes per session.

A Reiki Treatment will help strengthen your body's natural inbuilt ability to heal itself, you will feel calm and relaxed and it is a wonderful way to manage the stresses of everyday life.

Reiki supports and balances your Mind, Body and Spirit – it is not a religion or belief system, it will work even if you don't believe in it.

Reiki cannot be used instead of your usual medical treatment. However it is ideal to be used in addition to, and is known to enhance the effects of orthodox medical treatments.

Other Services
With the financial help of the MK Community Foundation, we have a comprehensive free library. We have a generous selection of books and CDs available to borrow – all aimed at helping you feel supported, positive and informed during what may be a difficult time in your life, either as a client, carer, or loved one.

Aside from (and separate from) the Reiki Sessions, our volunteers offer the following services during the evening.
• Indian Head Massage • Angel Card Readings • Meditation Circle (at the end of the evening time permitting)
These services may not always be available.

Tea/coffee/soft drinks and biscuits are always on offer, as is an opportunity to chat with others who may be in a similar situation to yourself.

We offer a warm welcome, a positive atmosphere and a safe space.
